The 103 mile Colorado Frontier Pathway and Scenic Byway provides much in the area of local interest. Some of the scenic views along the way include; the 100 mile long Sangre de Cristo mountain range, the Wet mountains, the Arkansas River, Hardscrabble Canyon, Bishops Castle, and the Greenhorn Valley.
Three miles down the road from the campground in Lake San Isabel (alt. 8600 ft), a part of the San Isabel National Forest. The 40 acre lake, stocked by the Colorado Department of Wildlife, is a favorite for fisherman and nature lovers. Hiking trails weave throughout the National Forest, leading to beautiful mountain peaks and green mountain valleys.

Local towns include Rye (6,900 ft) and Colorado City (6,000 ft). Colorado City boasts a 27 hole golf course. As you golf at Hollydot Golf Course (see link), you can enjoy the scenery of the Greenhorn Valley and Wet Mountains. There are three restaurants within a half hour to fill your dining needs.
. Outside of Canon City, Colorado is the Royal Gorge Suspension Bridge, the world's highest suspension bridge, at a height of 1053' above the river. The Great Sand Dunes National Monument makes for a nice day's drive. Giant sand dunes located by no water, instead sitting in a valley below a set of mountains.
South Central Colorado offers much to a wide variety of interests, and yet it is still quite unexplored compared other parts of the state. It is a quiet beautiful area waiting for you to explore.
